Ometepe is not your average island in fact it is more apt to describe it as a real life fantasy island. Declared a UNESCO Biosphere Island Reserve in 2010, the island comprises two volcanoes joined by a sandy isthmus creating both a white sand beach and a spectacular wetlands rich in biodiversity. 

Ometepe offers something for everyone. Those wanting adventure will find  hiking, kayaking, swimming,  horse riding & ATV/motorbike exploring. Those wanting to chillax will be met by an energy that inspires peace and serenity. Take a yoga class or melt into your massage table as our masseuse relieves your aches and pains.

SOME RECOMMENDED TOURS & ACTIVITIES

  • Climb Maderas Volcano: Traverse five ecosystems including a dwarf forest. See organic coffee plantations, two species of monkeys and swim in a mystical volcanic crater lake.

  • Climb Concepción Volcano: At 1600m this active volcano presents a real challenge. Gasp at awesome views, peer into the mouth of a steaming volcano and slide-run down the volcanic gravel to save time.

  • Kayak Istian Wetlands: A magical world awaits you inside this wetland estuary. Accessible usually between July and February. This marsh ecosystem is home to over 141 species of birds many of which are migratory species. Also see Cayman alligators, turtles and monkeys.

  • San Ramon Waterfall: This impressive 100m waterfall greets you after an hour-long hike up a beautiful tropical canyon. Cool off in the chilly volcanic pools at the base of the waterfall.

  • Cultural Excursions: Hike through unique shade grown coffee plantations, visit the oldest hacienda on the island & the largest working cooperative. Visit ancient pre-Columbian rock art (petroglyphs) and learn about the rich cultural heritage of the indigenous Nahuatl Indians who made them.

  • Visit Ojo de Agua a crystal clear volcanic spring water swimming pool. Studies of the water have found that it presents many health benefits due to the abundant minerals it possesses. 

  • Take a yoga class or participate in the magic of a cacao ceremony at El Pital chocolate factory or El Zopilote.

  • Enjoy a deep tissue, Swedish or Ayurvedic massage.
